Denon, Marantz, Polk and Definitive Technology Will Support Apple AirPlay 2

By Rachel Cericola

In between all of the product debuts earlier this week, Apple announced plans to release iOS 11. The latest version of the operating system will include all sorts of new features -- including the ability to send music anywhere in the house.

More specifically, AirPlay 2 is Apple's way of getting into the whole-house audio market. It will allow users to play music on speakers, receivers, and other audio devices throughout the home using Wi-Fi and either the Apple Control Center, the Home app, or voice commands to Siri.

So which products will support AirPlay 2? Definitely plan for it to be part of the upcoming Apple HomePod and existing Apple TV. However, Sound United says that they will also support Apple's new audio innovation.

Sound United is the parent company for Denon, Marantz, Polk Audio, HEOS, and Definitive Technology. Each of those brands will support Apple AirPlay 2, although it's unclear exactly which products will be doing that -- and when.

"Initial offerings will include AVRs and Hi-Fi products with other categories to follow," Sound United stated in an announcement. "The company is proud to continue supporting the future of wireless audio platforms, and ensure the consumer experience is user-friendly, accessible, and enjoyable across all brands."

Apple says that iOS 11 will be available this fall as a free software update for iPhone 5s and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation, iPad mini 2 and later, and iPod touch 6th generation.
