It looks like summer will be hot for 3D, and you won't even have to hit your local Cineplex. Hot on the heels of last week's announcement that Sony will soon have 3D-capable Blu-ray players, the company now says they will also add a 3D receiver into the mix.
The STR-DN1010 is a 7.1 channel A/V receiver, featuring HDMI 1.4 3D pass-through technology. That means you'll get your 3D video delights all while the unit is processing your audio formats. Of course, you'll need a 3D-capable TV first.
Offering 110 watts per channel, the unit sports full 1080p/24p support. It also has four HDMI inputs and three component, so you can hook up all of your favorite high-def devices.
Other features include a Digital Media Port (DMP) input for iPod and iPhone connections, the ability to upscale analog video to 1080p, an icon-driven menu system for simple (and pretty, we're guessing) navigation, and support for a second wireless zone, via Sony's S-AIR technology. Addon those S-AIR units, and you'll have wireless audio in up to 10 rooms.
Sony is expecting the STR-DN1010 to start selling in June for $500. In case you don't want to jump on 3D, but still need a new receiver, they will also debut three other non-HD models, the STR-DH810 ($400), STR-DH710 ($300) and STR-DH510 ($230), in March.
