We're all waiting and frothing at the mouth for new 3D-capable devices. Within the next month, you can stop drooling and start buying.
Today, Sony announced the new BDP-S470 Blu-ray 3D Disc player. Aside from delivering the magic of high-def, this unit can also be upgraded to support Blu-ray 3D content. Sony says that firmware update should be available some time this summer.
Like every other consumer electronics fan, Sony is getting pretty happy with the 3D stuff. According to Pocket-lint, the PS3 will start getting 3D firmware upgrades this summer as well. However, there are plenty of other Sony products that will also satisfy your 3D craving. The company says that the previously introduced BDP-S570 will be another upgradeable Blu-ray player. The BDP-S570 is expected to sell for $250, with the BDP-S470 costing $200. The difference between the two, besides the price, is that the S570 has built-in Wi-Fi, IP Content Noise Reduction, and 1GB of built-in memory. Not bad for a $50 upgrade.
All of the new models, as well as Sony's previously announced BDP-S370 ($180) are shipping now. Each one will be available at national retailers and via Sony Style next month.
Aside from Blu-ray, each of the new products will also provide access to Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Internet Radio, NPR, Sony Pictures, Sony Music. There are about 25 total providers via Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video platform. Pandora is expected to add the group in spring 2010.
