With initial closed-door previews at CEDIA Expo 2009 and a demo of a near final system last month at CEDIA Expo 2010, Aperion Audio's Intimus 4T Summit Wireless Home Theater System is finally available to order. More than just a set of surround sound speakers, the complete system replaces an audio/video receiver and speakers via an HDMI-based control center called a "preamp/transmitter," and high performance wireless speakers, each with its own built-in power amplifiers. Except for the power cords (yes, the speakers do need power in order to make sounds), and a single HDMI cable from the wireless hub to your TV, this is a fully wireless system: you won't need to run speaker wires around the room in order to get rich, full, discrete surround sound from all over your listening room or home theater
Available at first in a 5.1 configuration (a 7.1 version is coming soon), the new Aperion Intimus 4T Summit Wireless Home Theater System is the first production product to be powered by Summit Semiconductor's propietery wireless technology. A key contributing factor to audio quality is that the Summit Wireless system operates around the 5 GHz frequency range -- away from WiFi, Bluetooth, cordless phones, security systems and baby monitors -- so you won't get any interference from these or other commonly used wireless devices. And in the unlikely event that the desired frequency is in use, the system will automatically switch to an available frequency seamlessly and transparently.
Each system includes a Summit Wireless-enabled digital audio hub, two Intimus 4T wireless tower speakers for front left and right duties, an Intimus 5C wireless center speaker, a pair of Intimus 4B wireless satellite surround speakers and a Bravus 8A wireless powered subwoofer. Each speaker requires only a power connection to provide electricity to the internal wireless receiver and digital crossovers and amplifiers.
The wireless hub provides simple connectivity to digital televisions, Blu-ray Disc players, game consoles, iPods or other source components with its three HDMI inputs (with video passthrough), coax digital, optical digital and analog audio inputs. As the hub lacks any analog video inputs, devices such as a Wii or VCR would need to have their video outputs connected directly to the TV instead of routed through the hub, while their audio outputs can be connected to the wireless hub. The hub connects to your TV with a single standard HDMI cable.
The wireless hub offers on-board decoders for the latest lossless audio codecs: DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD. A wireless transceiver, built into the control center, then broadcasts the audio signals out to the waiting speakers. The system also uses Summit Wireless' automatic optimization capability that includes the SpeakerFinderTM instant setup wizard and MyZoneTM audio sweet spot calibration feature. These features allow you to get instant level and distance calibration of your entire speaker system, as well as the ability to readjust it automatically to optimize the sound for any specific location in the room, with just a button press on the remote control.
The Aperion Intimus 4T Summit Wireless Home Theater System is now available to pre-order on the Aperion web site for $2,499 in a 5.1-channel configuration. It is expected to begin shipping on December 28, 2010.
