Sharp Preps 7 and 8 Series LED HDTV Models for Shipment in 60", 70", 80" Screen Sizes

By Rachel Cericola

Earlier in the month, Sharp announced plans to start shipping its 6-Series of LED HDTVs. Naturally, the next in the line would be the 7-Series and 8-Series, and now we have release dates, prices, and plenty of other interesting tidbits on both.

Sharp says that both of the new 7-Series AQUOS 3D TVs models are actually shipping now. This includes the 60-inch LC-60LE745U and the 70-inch LC-70LE745U. Besides a slick new bezel, both of these LEDs feature a full 1080p HD image, active 3D technology, edge-lit LED backlighting, and a 120Hz refresh rate. As a nice bonus, both models also have four HDMI inputs for hooking in all of your favorite AV devices. Each one also comes packing built-in WiFi, which means that users should have no problem accessing each set's SmartCentral features.

The SmartCentral platform includes Sharp's newly designed user interface, which offers on-screen access to plenty of web-based services, as well as personalized settings and wallpapers. Current apps include Netflix, Facebook, CinemaNow and YouTube. It's also the spot where users can tap into AQUOS Advantage Live, a feature that offers live, on-screen customer service, right through the TV screen.

The 80-inch LC-80LE844U features Quattron technology, full array LED backlighting and the AquoMotion 480 refresh rate.

If you're willing to wait, the AQUOS Quattron 8-Series will follow the 7-Series into stores sometime next month.

This series will include the 60-inch LC-60LE847U, the 70-inch LC-70LE847U, and a whopping 80 inches with the LC-80LE844U. Each model boasts a slim new bezel, the full 1080p HD image, active 3D, and built-in WiFi with the SmartCentral platform. The difference here, however, is that the 7-Series adds in Quattron technology with Quad Pixel Plus 2. This little perk puts yellow into the typical red, green, and blue LCD subpixel array. The end result promises better, brighter images.

Besides being the biggest of the new models, the 80-inch LC-80LE844U also features full array LED backlighting and the AquoMotion 480 refresh rate. The smaller of the two 8-Series sets have edge-lit LED with a new 240Hz AQUOS LCD panel.
