Runco Goes Lampless with QuantumColor Q-1500d LED Home Theater Projector

By Greg Robinson

In light of the continued popularity of its Q-750i and Q-750d home theater projectors, Runco used this week's CEDIA Expo in Atlanta to showcase their next generation display device: the Q-1500d. Designed for large screens (up to 200 inches) or rooms with moderate levels of ambient light, the lampless LED-based Q-1500d is the newest member of Runco's award-winning QuantumColor projector series.

Sure to be popular with the custom installation crowd, the Q-1500d allows for significant flexibility and customization thanks to Runco's Personal Color Equalizer (PCE) technology. PCE allows for individual color adjustment not only for each video source independently, but also coupled with per-user preference settings which are then stored in memory.

Unlike traditional mercury lamps, which power the majority of home theater projectors, Runco's "InfiniLight" lampess LED system promises "InstantOn" warm-up and shut-down, lamp calibration during every start-up, and a more gentle curve of brightness loss over time - not to mention a more consistent quality of light and lower power consumption.

Like their other new projector announced at CEDIA, the 3D-capable D-73d, the Q-1500d comes packaged with Runco's new Digital High-Definition (DHD) external video processor, which now supports control over HDMI CEC in addition to traditional IR and RS-232 connections. In addition to its video correction and image refinement capabilities, the DHD provides four HDMI inputs along with a single HDMI output for monitoring and audio pass-thru.

The Q-1500d will be available from authorized Runco dealers in Q4 of this year with an MSRP of $39,995.
