Panasonic Brightens Up PT-AR100U Projector with 2800 Lumens

By Rachel Cericola

Panasonic has made some noise with 3D projector announcements lately. Now, they want to get back to basics. The newly announced PT-AR100U Full High-Definition LCD Home Theater Projector doesn't provide any type of 3D support, but promises a full 1080p HD picture for movies, sports and gaming, at an affordable price.

Besides a big picture, the PT-AT100U boasts 2800 lumens of brightness and a 50,000:1 contrast ratio. That means that this projector can entertain under almost any type of lighting conditions.

To generate that type of power, the unit uses a new, high-power 280-watt Red-Rich Lamp and optical unit. It also has a feature called Light Harmonizer 3, which allows the projector to adjust picture quality based on the room's lighting conditions. The Light Harmonizer 3 uses built-in ambient light and color sensors to adjust the white balance, gamma curve and sharpness settings, as well as deliver those bright, crisp images we've come to expect from the home theater experience.

Promising an easy installation, the PT-AR100U has a 2x zoom to cast a 120-inch diagonal image from as close as about 11.5 feet to 23 feet from the screen. The projector's lens shift capability enables 68 percent vertical adjustment and 26 percent horizontal adjustment, which offers a variety of placement options.

It also has Dynamic Iris Pro and Pure Color Filter Pro features and a proprietary Detail Clarity Processor 3 engine, as well as a built-in Waveform monitor and Split Adjust Mode for easy picture adjustments. Also, seven different picture modes are designed to deliver the best image possible. Those include: Sports, Game, Cinema1, Vivid Cinema, Normal, REC709 and Dynamic mode.

Allowing you to hook up everything from AV devices to motorized screens, the PT-AR100U comes packing two HDMI inputs, two programmable 12-volt trigger terminals and VIERA Link.

"Clear image quality and stunningly bright pictures make the PT-AR100U perfect for watching sports, showing movies and playing video games at home," said Scott Wellington, product marketing manager at Panasonic Solutions Company. "The addition of the PT-AR100U to our home theater projector portfolio reaffirms our commitment to providing consumers with innovative technologies that transform their living rooms and home theaters into dynamic, state-of-the-art entertainment centers."

Panasonic says that the PT-AR100U Full High-Definition home theater projector will start selling in October. The unit is expected to have an MSRP of $1999.
