Hot on the heels of their recently announced partnership with Paramount Digital Entertainment to deliver pre-loaded movies on their hard drives right out of the box, manufacturer Seagate has revealed yet another way that their products are adapting to an ever-changing a changing media market. Chief among the newly added features to the existing Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD Media Player is support for Netflix, providing access to and instant streaming of unlimited TV episodes and Hollywood movies, beginning today.
Netflix now joins online content providers YouTube, vTuner and Mediafly to bring an even larger and more varied array of internet media right to the TV via the FreeAgent Theater+ media player. Mediafly is an aggregator of free and user-generated content including podcasts, news, sports, comedy, pop culture and technology, while the vTuner audio feed accesses more than 8,000 internet radio stations. The FreeAgent Theater+ is also newly UPnP/DLNA compliant, enabling access and sharing of digital content using any DLNA-compliant device on a network, including Seagate's FreeAgent DockStar network adapter. The FreeAgent Theater+ also plays content stored locally, via a connected FreeAgent Go hard disk drive, or on a home network, linked wired or wirelessly.
The free, necessary firmware upgrade is being pushed to all network-connected FreeAgent Theater+ media players, or it can be downloaded through the Seagate website. Expect it to bring enhanced navigation features and user interface as well, namely:
The upgraded firmware will also be included as part of all future product shipments. The Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD Media Player carries a suggested retail price of $149.99.
