Late last summer, Logitech introduced the UE Mobile Boombox under its Ultimate Ears brand. The portable speaker was made to be paired with Bluetooth devices almost anywhere. Now it's time for a little upgrade -- and we do mean little. The company just announced the UE MINI BOOM, a new portable speaker that promises big sound from a small package.
Weighing in well under a pound, the UE MINI BOOM is small enough to travel. It can also travel pretty lightly, since it features built-in Bluetooth connectivity. That basically means that you don't need extra cables and cords. This speaker can be easily paired with your smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth-enabled device, even when it's not nearby. Logitech says that connection can be made up to 50 feet away.
However, that's not the speaker's only wireless feature. It can also be powered up via the included micro-USB charger, so you don't have to have an outlet whenever you want to rock out. Just charge up the UE MINI BOOM when it's not in use; it promises up to 10 hours of playback whenever and wherever you need it.
Now, the UE MINI BOOM does sound a lot like its predecessor -- and pretty much every other portable Bluetooth speaker currently on the market. However, there's a hook: Logitech has made it possible to pair up two UE MINI BOOM speakers, so you can double the sound. This is a feature we've seen in other speakers as well, but certainly none at this low of a price point. All you need to make that pairing magic happen (besides the two speakers) is the free UE MINI BOOM app, which is now available for iOS and Android devices.
According to Logitech, listeners can stream to two UE MINI BOOM speakers from one source. If you just have the one speaker, it can be paired with up to eight Bluetooth-enabled sources, with up to two available for playback at any given time.
Available in orange, purple, red, yellow and black, the UE MINI BOOM speaker is built to last, with a durable metal frame and rubber casing. Other features include a speakerphone function, a multi-function button for answering and ending calls, and other simple controls.
