Happy DTS Day, everyone! Yes, it's probably not a holiday that you'd find on a calendar or in a Hallmark card. However, if you're reading Big Picture Big Sound, you certainly have a reason to celebrate this July 1.
DTS is currently celebrating DTS 7.1 Day, a holiday that's recognized in the state of California. There are a few festivities this year, but it's a nice tie-in with the company's 20th anniversary.
To help commemorate the occasion, DTS has released the below infographic, which is titled, "Making the World Sound Better." (Click here for a bigger peek.) As you can see, it highlights a lot of the company's innovations since DTS first debuted in 1993. Some of those achievements include the DTS release of Jurassic Park, the company's patents, compatible products, and more.
Of course, there's also a mention of 7.1 Day, which was first reconigized by the state of California in 2009. As part of the celebration, DTS is kicking off a month-long 20-year anniversary sweepstakes via Facebook and Twitter. Some of the prizes will include Jurassic Park Blu-rays, a Yamaha soundbar, a Toshiba tablet, and more.
"These last 20 years at DTS have been a tremendous experience and I can't wait to see what the next 20 years will bring," said Jon Kirchner, chairman and CEO at DTS. "In the course of the past two decades, DTS witnessed the CE and entertainment industries undergo several substantial changes, including the shift from film to digital cinema, the Internet boom, the rise of Blu-ray, the rapid evolution of processing power in CE products, streaming media, social media and the transition to digital content consumption. Embracing the many changes that span the industries in which we do business, DTS is still here and stronger than ever, proving that sound matters."
