Man of Steel is still two days away, but the film is already creating a lot of buzz. Zack Snyder is taking the reigns, Henry Cavill is squeezing into that skin-tight suit, and a slew of other actors are filling out the famous character list.
However, there's something else insanely unique about this latest incarnation of Superman. It's the Man of Steel: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
The film is being scored by one of the best in the business, Academy Award, Grammy and Golden Globe-winning composer Hans Zimmer. Even if you don't think you're familiar with his work, you are. He's composed music for The Lion King, Crimson Tide, The Dark Knight and Inception. However, this soundtrack is very different, thanks to the magic of DTS.
A limited deluxe edition of the soundtrack just made its big debut this week, complete with a download that delivers a DTS Headphone:X audio mix. The technology creates a surround sound experience for headphone listeners. However, it's not just any surround sound experience; it's like getting 11.1 from your headphones. According to DTS, this technology "externalizes and expands sound" to deliver a faithful reproduction of the soundtrack. The end result sounds like something coming from high-quality loudspeakers located at a distance, all around the listener.
"With the Man of Steel soundtrack, I wanted to try something new and give fans the opportunity to connect with characters and completely immerse themselves in the emotion and action of the movie in a way that's never been done before," said Zimmer. "I think DTS Headphone:X is an incredible tool for putting the listener directly into my chair, allowing them to hear the way the music was actually written. Every bit of the music is accurately recreated, allowing fans to hear all elements of the soundtrack, exactly as I heard it while producing it."
Released by WaterTower Music, the Man of Steel: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack has a total of 24 tracks housed in a special embossed steel case. The deluxe edition CD comes with the digital copy of the album, which can be downloaded in DTS Headphone:X via Zimmer's Z+ Music app. Other features include the 28-minute "Man of Steel (Hans Original Sketchbook)" and access multiple videos showing an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the music.
"Hans Zimmer is known for his ability to produce soundtracks utilizing methods outside the bounds of the ordinary, and we believe his creativity with the Man of Steel score will be preserved and presented with precision to those who listen to it in DTS Headphone:X," said Geir Skaaden, senior vice president of products and platforms for DTS, Inc. "Unlike any audio technology preceding it, DTS Headphone:X is able to maintain the creator's intent by precisely reproducing the acoustic environment in which the score was mixed over the listener's headphones or earbuds, complete with all audio nuances and directional characteristics."
The Man Of Steel: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (limited deluxe edition) is available now. The Z+ Music app is also available, but currently a free exclusive for iPhone and iPad users. An Android version is expected to be available soon.
