Denon is out and about, showing off its new wares today. The big theme this year is "in command and in control." To highlight that concept, the company has announced its new IN-Command receiver series, which is scheduled to start shipping this May.
The three new IN-Command receivers are models AVR-2112CI (SRP: $599.99), AVR-2312CI (SRP: $799.99) and AVR-3312CI (SRP: $999.99). Each one does come packing a variety of networking capabilities. However, the big hook is that all three IN-Command models actually have what Denon is calling "a web browser" function. That doesn't mean you'll be surfing the web from your receiver. However, you will be able to stream content from Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster and about 12,000 other web-based radio stations (some subscription fees may apply), as well as from Windows PC and media server products, NAS devices, and services such as Flickr.
Other features on these newly designed, thinner receivers include Dolby Pro Logic IIz support, 24-bit/192-kHz DACs per audio channel, and Audyssey Dynamic Volume, Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Audyssey MultEQ XT. Audyssey DSX is also offered on the in AVR-3312CI.
Also, you will probably notice how nicely these three models play with a variety of Apple products. All three will come with AirPlay features installed. That perk allows users to wirelessly stream iTunes as well as stored content from any iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, via your home's Wi-Fi network. If you don't have the wireless capabilities, you can still hook up any of those Apple devices through iPod/iPhone Direct Connectivity via USB.
One other new unique networking feature is Denon's own Party Mode Plus. This allows for simultaneous music in up to five rooms, if the system is connected to compatible Denon Party Mode-compliant products.
Denon will also offer an Audyssey Pro installer package in both the AVR-2312CI and AVR-3312CI. This add-on boasts ideal sonic performance in up to 32 different positions, promising the best sound quality regardless of the size or shape of the room. Both units can also deliver remote access via the Internet, RS-232 and IP Control for third-party controllers. They are also Control4 certified.
"The 'IN' in 'IN-Command' stands for Integrated Network, allowing consumers to be "in command" of all their content, components and entertainment environments so they can enjoy music, movies and games, with dramatically enhanced surround sound, plus interactive web access, multi-zone networking and more," said Jeff Talmadge, Denon's director of product development and systems integration. "From initial set-up to maximum enjoyment, these new receivers do it all in the simplest and most straightforward ways possible. Importantly, many of the features in these CI-friendly models represent leading-edge technologies and capabilities of models priced significantly higher."
