Yamaha Releases DTS:X Firmware for Select Home Theater Components

By Rachel Cericola

If you have a little something from Yamaha in your home theater setup, you may be eligible for an upgrade. The company just announced that the DTS:X firmware update is now available for select AV components.

The Yamaha CX-A5100 AV preamp and the company's Aventage RX-A3050, RX-A2050, and RX-A1050 AV receivers are all eligible for these audio goodies. The update isĀ free and can be downloaded from the Internet.

All of these products feature support for Dolby Atmos, but adding in DTS:X will allow you to experience even more three-dimensional listening at home. Like Dolby Atmos, DTS:X is an object-based format that can place and move sounds around the room, so you can experience audio from every angle -- including overhead.

Announced in June 2015, the 9.2-channel RX-A3050 and RX-A2050, as well as the 7.2-channel RX-A1050, all feature Dolby Atmos out of the box. The RX-A3050 can be expanded up to 11.2 channels and features Yamaha's Cinema DSP HD3 technology for more immersive sound. It also has an ESS Technology 192kHz/32-bit SABRE32 Ultra DAC for the seven main channels and the Sabre Premier Audio DAC for the presence channels. The RX-A2050 has two of the ESS Technology Sabre Premier Audio DACs, while the RX-A1050 uses one.

Later that summer, the company debuted the Aventage CX-A5100 AV preamp. This component features MusicCast wireless music streaming, with Bluetooth playback and Bluetooth output options. It also has Cinema DSP, which works with both DTS:X and Dolby Atmos, for an even more immersive experience. Other features include 4K video with HDCP 2.2, SABRE32 Ultra DACs, YPAO - R.S.C. with 3D calibration, eight HDMI inputs, and two HDMI outputs. Also worth noting is that you can pair the CX-A5100 with Yamaha's MX-A5000 power amplifier for an 11.2-channel or 7.1.4-channel configuration.

"Yamaha is determined to provide the most immersive sound technologies available today and the DTS:X firmware update demonstrates our passion for sharing the latest in performance with our customers," said Bob Goedken, general manager for Yamaha's AV division.

All four of these components are currently shipping. The Aventage RX-A3050, RX-A2050, and RX-A1050 AV receivers are priced at $1,999.95, $1,599.95, and $1,199.95, respectively. The Aventage CX-A5100 AV preamp is also available now, with an MSRP of $2,499.95.
