We're always on the lookout for a new TV., not just to write about, but to buy one! With VIZIO's combination of low price and advanced features, it's hard to resist taking the plunge with a new TV, particularly after seeing.hearing about the latest upcoming models
The only thing that could be confusing is which model you may want. At the CEA Line Shows in New York City this week, the company announced many new additions to its XVT ("Extreme VIZIO Technology") series. All feature VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA), which provides on-screen, on-demand access to online content providers and social networking sites such as Netflix, VUDU, Pandora, Facebook, Twitter and more.
Three of the new models, including the 55-inch XVT3D554SV and 47-inch XVT3D474SV, will include full HD 3D capabilities. Both of these offer Active 3D, which ties together a frame sequential display and active-shutter glasses. Adding more wow factor to the package is TruLED with Smart Dimming, which not only makes for a slimmer, more energy-efficient unit, but it also offers improved black levels and contrast compared to traditional CCFL-lit LCD TVs.
3D TV Model Details:
One other 3D model is the XVT3D424SV. This model features Razor LED backlighting with Smart Dimming. Again, it's a frame sequential display that works with the active-shutter glasses. It also features 480Hz SPS high frame rate technology and Smooth Motion. Like the two models above, the XVT3D424SV will ship in Q4 2010.
While all of that is certainly impressive, we must mention that VIZIO was also showing off a flat-panel LED-lit LCD TV that did 3D using passive (CPOL - Circular Polarization) glasses, like the ones you find in most 3D movie theaters. This is extremely cool, since passive glasses cost a lot less than active ones. For a family of 4 you could save a few hundred bucks on the glasses alone, and the savings really kick in if you want to throw a 3D movie party.
Even better, it actually looks pretty good. Our editor, Chris Boylan, saw a demo of a prototype set, tentatively named the XVT3D654SV and found that it offered a convincing illusion of 3D Pricing and availability details are not yet available though company reps said the model is scheduled for release in 2011.
If the 3D isn't that important to you, there are plenty of other options -- and we mean plenty. VIZIO actually offers that VIA service in a lot of them, with sizes ranging from 22 to 55 inches. Most models include a Bluetooth universal remote control with sliding QWERTY keyboard, which makes punching web selections in, and entering userids and passwords extremely easy. There's also a built-in IR emitter in the remote that can allow you to simultaneously control the TV (via Bluetooth) as well as any compatible source devices (e.g., Blu-ray or set top box) via infrared.
