Sharp Rolls Out 9 Screen Sizes for 2015 AQUOS HDTV Lineup

By Rachel Cericola

Despite the insane amount of 4K TVs at the 2015 International CES this week, HDTV is alive and well. In fact, Sharp Electronics just introduced plenty of non-4K options for its 2015 AQUOS HDTV lineup.

Sharp will release AQUOS models in nine screen sizes this year, with plenty of Smart TV features, as well as Quattron and Q+ technology. Of course, not all of the company's 2015 models will be getting those image perks.

The premium HD options are reserved for the EQ Series and UQ Series. The EQ has Sharp's proprietary Quattron technology, which adds a fourth yellow sub-pixel into the mix to deliver 1 billion more shades of color over your average HDTV. Available in 60- and 70-inch models, this series also has Edge LED, AquoMotion 480, SmartCentral apps, a wallpaper mode, three HDMI inputs, one USB port, and a super-narrow bezel that measures a mere 0.4 inches.

The UQ Series bumps up some of those specs, with ELED backlighting and Pixel Splitting technology for the line's lone 70-incher. Other additions include a quad-core processor, 4K streaming, SmartCentral 4.0 and the Android TV platform for putting Google Play goodies on the big screen. This model also features four HDMI inputs and three USB ports for adding in other AV essentials.

Sharp is making several other models... well, sharp. The LE660 Series features 60-, 70- and 80-inch screen sizes, with 1080p images, AquoMotion 240, a dual-core processor, three HDMI inputs, one USB port, and built-in WiFi. That connectivity will come in handy when accessing the set's SmartCentral apps, which also has a built-in web browser.

The last entry in Sharp's 2015 HDTV lineup is the AQUOS 653 Series. This line has one 32-incher, which has two HDMI inputs, MHL support and one USB port. The 40-, 43-, 48-, 55- and 65-inch models have the MHL, the USB and three HDMI inputs. The top three screen sizes get AquoMotion 120, with the 65-incher getting bumped to AquoMotion 240. Like the LE660 TVs, this series also has the 1080p, a dual-core processor, the SmartCentral apps, the web browser and the built-in WiFi.

Sharp is showing the 2015 AQUOS HDTV lineup at CES 2015 in Las Vegas this week. However, the company has yet to announce availability or pricing for any of the newly announced models.
