Marantz M1 and M4 Powered Network Streamers Bring Audiophile Streaming to Every Room

By Chris Boylan

Today, Marantz unveiled not just one but two new network streamers for audiophiles. And these ones include built-in 100 Watt/channel power amps so all you need to add is a pair of standard passive loudspeakers for an instant high-res audio streaming system. One is ideal for a standard two-channel HiFi rig while the other includes four independent zones and eight channels of amplification to drive a synchronized whole home music system.

The Marantz M1 network stereo amplifier ($1000 US | £900 UK | €1000 Europe) and Marantz M4 four-zone 8-channel distributed network amplifier ($3500 US | £3000 UK | €3500 Europe) offer compatibility with a wide mix of streaming sources and include both digital and analog inputs for maximum flexibility. Each unit supports 24-bit/192KHz high-res audio, Direct Stream Digital (DSD), Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2 and HEOS whole home networking for access to a diverse selection of streaming services and sources.

The units both support Bluetooth, WiFi and Gigabit wired connectivity, RCA analog inputs, fiberoptic digital and USB ports for connecting a local flash drive with digital music files. The M1 even includes an HDMI port with eARC compatibility so you can use your Smart TV or projector and its built-in apps as a source for the system. The M1 also includes a subwoofer output with full bass management.

Not Just Power. Marantz Power

You'll find Marantz renowned high quality amplifiers on board each unit with 100 Watts of power to each channel with a vanishingly low 0.005% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). The units operate in the digital domain from end to end in order to simplify the signal flow and leverage the on-board Digital Signal Processing (DSP) including Marantz Music Digital Filtering (MMDF). This processing technology was first developed for the brand's reference-grade audiophile CD players and conveys the characteristic warmth and musicality for which the Marantz brand is known.

Built on the HEOS whole whole music platform, both Marantz units can share music across your home with other HEOS-enabled devices such as soundbars, powered speakers and receivers from Marantz and Denon. HEOS currently supports a wide variety of music streaming apps including Deezer, Mood:Mix, Napster, Pandora, SoundCloud, Spotify, TIDAL and TuneIn. The HEOS app also allows you to select music on your phone or tablet or music on a connected USB drive and play that on any HEOS zone within your home. HEOS supports up to 32 discrete zones so it's compatible with even the largest home, yacht or commercial implementation. Just load up the HEOS mobile app for Android or iOS and unleash your music anywhere in your home.

The M1's compact form factor and elegant design make it a discrete streaming powerhouse for any living space while the M4's standard rack-mount chassis with included rack ears and integrated quiet-running fan make it a fine addition to any equipment closet.
