Logitech is kicking off 2015 with a BOOM. It's a MEGABOOM, if you want to get technical. The company just announced plans to release the UE MEGABOOM, a new portable speaker that promises "freakishly" good sound.
As part of the company's Ultimate Ears brand, this wireless speaker boasts "more power, more sound, more bass and more mayhem" -- when compared to other wireless speakers, anyway.
Like the original UE BOOM, this model can blast out 360 degrees of sound almost anywhere. And really, it does work anywhere. It's actually waterproof (IPX7 certified!), with a stain-resistant acoustic skin. However, the enclosure doesn't just keep the speaker safe from your grubby fingerprints and looking pretty. It also keeps it cranking out sound for up to 20 hours, thanks to the rechargeable battery.
Weighing in at less than 2 pounds, the UE MEGABOOM is the perfect travel companion. It even has a 100-foot Bluetooth range, so you can easily pair it with your smartphone or other favorite portable. Once connected, you can stream music from those mobile devices directly to the speaker, without having to be tethered,
If you have room in your backpack, the speaker can also be connected to a second UE MEGABOOM or the original UE BOOM for even bigger sound.
The UE MEGABOOM can be controlled using one of Logitech's free iOS and/or Android apps. Other features include an alarm function, customizable sound, and a remote on/off option. The company is also planning future updates, which can easily be completed over the air.
"People want their music wherever they go, and to be part of everything they do," said Rory Dooley, general manager of Ultimate Ears. "That's why we designed UE MEGABOOM to be strong enough to withstand your life and your adventures, and allow you to share the magic of music wherever you go."
Ultimate Ears plans to start selling the UE MEGABOOM sometime in January, with an MSRP of $299.99.
