Epson Wants to Put a Projector in Your Living Room with Ultra Bright Pro Cinema Series

By Rachel Cericola

Everyone is talking about 4K. However, Epson is looking to brighten up your living room with a super-bright 1080p projector -- four of them, actually.

The company just announced a new lineup of Full HD 1080p Ultra-Bright Pro Cinema Projectors. The Pro Cinema 4855WU is shipping now, with the Pro Cinema G6970WU, Pro Cinema G6570WU, and wireless Pro Cinema 1985 all coming next month.

Unlike last year's LS10000, which can do 4K from native 4K sources using pixel shift technology, all four of these new models are 1080p HD projectors. Boasting up to 6,000 lumens of color brightness and 6,000 lumens of white brightness, each one of these new 3LCD, 3-chip projectors is designed to work in large, open ambient light environments that compete directly with traditional flat panels.

Designed specifically with custom installers in mind, the Pro Cinema G6970WU, G6570WU and 4855WU all have vertical and horizontal lens shift, centered lens design, and Arc Correction. Even better, each member of this trio has Faroudja DCDi Cinema technology to pump up the picture quality. Other features include two HD connections, a split-screen function, a ceiling mount, and an extra lamp.

The Pro Cinema G6970WU and G6570WU each have a total of six lenses (standard, rear, two middle, and one long-throw), which makes these models perfect for almost any space. Both also have HDBaseT connectivity for larger homes, as well as support for Crestron, AMX, Extron XTP, and Control4's Simple Device Discovery Protocol. The Pro Cinema G6970WU adds in HD-SDI (Serial Digital Interface) connectivity to extend the signal 300 feet, for supporting high frame rates and color depth.

If you have a smaller home or want to be able to move your movie night from the basement to the backyard, Epson's Pro Cinema 1985 has Miracast and Intel WiDi support, so you can stream content wirelessly from your smartphone, tablet or laptop. It also has built-in sound, two HDMI inputs, and MHL support for use with Chromecast, the Roku 4, and the Amazon Fire TV Stick.

"Epson is optimizing the home theater experience beyond the dedicated home theater room and into expansive settings -- like media rooms with large windows -- where light control is not an option," said Brian Savarese, product manager at Epson America. "We know people gather together for their entertainment, especially for their favorite sports. The Epson Ultra Bright Pro Cinema projectors deliver brilliant, immersive bigger screen sports with an image size that TVs simply can't touch."

As mentioned, the Pro Cinema 4855WU is shipping now. It features 4,000 lumens, a fixed lens, and an MSRP of $3,099. The Pro Cinema G6970WU will follow next month, with 6,000 lumens and a $6,999 price tag. Also coming in November, the Pro Cinema G6570WU is listed with 5,200 lumens and a $5,499 MSRP. And finally, the Pro Cinema 1985 wireless model has 4,800 lumens and will run you $2,499.
