Ever since Denon Electronics launched the HEOS wireless multi-room sound platform back in 2014, we've seen a lot of interesting developments. They've added new speakers and Bluetooth support, with receivers expected within the next few weeks. However, there's a new perk coming to the lineup -- and it could be the coolest one we've seen yet.
Denon says that HEOS products will soon integrate with Amazon Alexa. This will add hands-free voice control into that multi-room music setup.
Denon and Amazon plan to voice-enable the HEOS wireless multi-room sound platform sometime in Q1 2017. Once the new feature launches, you'll be able to control HEOS products via Alexa and the sound of your voice. Currently, you need to use the HEOS app, which is free for iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices. Adding in Alexa means that if you want to play specific songs, get news, or even turn on compatible smart home products, all you have to do is ask.
Denon has actually been working on this new feature since earlier this year. The integration with Amazon Alexa is expected to launch on all HEOS-enabled devices by Q1 2017.
"Amazon shares with Denon a passion for innovation and design," said Steve Rabuchin, vice president of Amazon Alexa. "We are excited to collaborate with them to bring hands-free voice control to premium audio products early next year. Soon HEOS and Amazon Alexa customers will be able to enjoy the convenience of the Alexa voice service plus high-quality home audio -- getting us one step closer to our goal of enabling Alexa voice control on every device within customers' homes."
Currently, the HEOS lineup features four wireless multi-zone speakers, the HEOS HomeCinema soundbar and subwoofer, the HEOS Drive multi-zone amplifier, and the HEOS Link and HEOS Amp. By connecting any of those products to your home's Wi-Fi, you can access and stream music in every room. Earlier this year, the company also added Bluetooth support for on-the-go streaming.
