CES: Sony Strikes a Pose with NX800 Series Bravia HDTVs

By Greg Robinson

Flat panel HDTVs have become a common sight, both at the local megastore and at tech trade shows such as last week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Bezels have gotten narrower, profiles have gotten slimmer, but it's still relatively hard to tell one of these displays from the other. As such, hats off to Sony for spicing things up with their new "Monolithic Design," one of the key selling points of the stylish new Bravia NX800 series displays.

The NX800 series will be available in 46-inch (KDL-46NX800), 52-inch (KDL-52NX800), and 60-inch (KDL-60NX800) sizes. Although the NX800 series flat panels can be hung on the wall, these black, slab-style LED TVs can also be set into their attractive silver base units, giving the display a 6-degree upward tilt and a striking overall appearance. Although surely welcome for owners of low TV cabinets and furniture, this upward tilt may not be to everyone's liking. Consequently, a traditional stand is also offered plus there's always the aforementioned wall-mount option.

Sony's NX800 series features edge-lit LED backlighting, integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bravia Internet Video and Bravia Internet Widgets plus a host of other goodies such as 240Hz "Motionflow" processing and touch-sensitive controls.

Pricing on Sony's NX800 Series (MSRP):

  • 60-inch : KDL-60NX800 : $4,600
  • 52-inch : KDL-52NX800 : $3,400
  • 46-inch : KDL-46NX800 : $2,800

All of the above NX800 series models are expected to go on sale in March but if you want to be the first on your block to get one, you can pre-order the NX800 series HDTVs today at SonyStyle.com.
