Avatar Blu-ray Free (or Better) with Purchase of Panasonic Blu-ray Player or HTiB

By Rachel Cericola

Happy Avatar Day, everyone!

OK... so it is actually Earth Day, but that's been a bit overshadowed by the release of the biggest grossing film of all time on Blu-ray Disc and DVD. To help celebrate the Thursday release, Panasonic says they plan to give away a $25 mail-in rebate with the purchase of any 2010 Panasonic Blu-ray Disc player or Blu-ray entertainment system and Avatar on either Blu-ray or DVD -- that's like getting the disc for free or even better!

Panasonic isn't just a movie fan, they helped in the production process, providing the film with some of its equipment. As a result, the promotion is an exclusive between Fox and Panasonic. "Panasonic is proud to be a partner with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and to have played a part in the big-screen launch of Avatar and its tremendous success worldwide through our technological and promotional contributions," said Bob Perry, Panasonic's senior VP. "We are equally proud to work with Fox on the next step in the Avatar legacy by helping to promote the launch of Avatar on Blu-ray and DVD. Avatar is perhaps the purest example of the tremendous benefits of Blu-ray Disc movies which allow consumers to enjoy stunning Full HD, true-to-life imagery as the movie creators intended it to look."

Panasonic products eligible for the rebate include the DMP-BD45, DMP-BD65, DMP-BD85, DMP-B100, DMP-B500, SC-BT230, SC-BT330, and the SC-BT730. Once you buy both, you can mail in the rebate to get your check.

Avatar made its home debut today, to coincide with Earth Day. However, the film is still raking it in at the box office. To date, it's taken in over $2.7 billion worldwide.  An extended version of the film is planned to be re-introduced to theaters later this year.
