NEC Shows Off Upcoming 1080P Multi-Function LCD TVs at CEDIA
By Chris Boylan
Long known as a leader in multi-use, multi-function displays,
NEC Display Solutions gave us a sneak preview of three upcoming large-screen LCD displays at CEDIA Expo in Denver.
The new "multi-function" models include the 40-inch M40 ($3,000, December) and 46-inch M46 ($4000, December). NEC will also soon begin shipping a 57-inch LCD flat panel, the LCD5710 ($15,000, November). Prices and availability dates may be subject to change. All three models will feature Faroudja/DCDi video processing, with proprietary tweaks by NEC.
The M40 and M46 will feature 500 nits brightness, 175 degree viewing angles and 1,000:1 contrast ratios. The panel response times will be a minimum of 8 ms. As true multi-function displays, suitable for home theater, gaming, computer use, or even medical imaging (doesn't everyone want to analyze their own x-rays in the comfort of their own home?), the units will come with several preset picture modes optimized for different uses or activities, as well as advanced video calibration features such as custom gamma levels.
What's good for the goose is good for the gamer with NEC's multi-function 1080p LCD displays (pictured is the M46).
More details will follow as these models near production.
