The Harmony 890 includes both RF and IR control capabilities. This means it can work through walls and through cabinet doors, it's not just limited to line of sight. It plugs into your PC or Mac via a standard USB cable and allows you to specify all of your devices (cable box, TV, DVD player, etc.) via a simple web-based interface. It then sets up activities like "Watch TV" which power up multiple devices and allow you to control multiple components simultaneously (e.g., "volume" controls your receiver while "channel up/down" controls your cable box).
The remote comes with a rechargeable battery and recharger/base station.
