JVC Announces New 1080P DILA Home Theater Front Projector For Under $7,000

JVC's D-ILA device
Although details are still sketchy, JVC announced today that they will be releasing a new 3-chip D-ILA (Digital Image Light Amplifier) home theater projector for the consumer home theater market in early 2007.
The projector will deliver a native contrast ratio of 10,000:1 as well as full HD 1080p resolution (1920 X 1080 pixels, progressive scan).
At the heart of JVC's new technology are three 0.7-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel full HD DILA devices that deliver a native resolution of two megapixels. D-ILA (Digital Image Light Amplifier) is JVC's version of LCOS - Liquid Crystal on Silicon.
The intra-pixel gap of the D-ILA device is just .35 micrometers, effectively eliminating the "screen door effect" of LCD and other similar fixed pixel display technologies.
A primary stated advantage of JVC's D-ILA technbology over other fixed pixel projection devices is that its super-fine intra-pixel gap structure eliminates grids, or the "screen door effect," found in other technologies. D-ILA projectors from JVC also offer a high aperture ratio of more than 90 percent to ensure smooth, film-like images. When combined with JVC's newly developed optical projection system, these latest D-ILA chips can provide a native contrast of up to 10,000:1 and a brightness level of 800 lumens for natural yet vivid color reproduction and high contrast.
The first product to incorporate JVC's new technology will be a full HD home cinema projector slated to be available in early 2007 and expected to sell for less than $7,000. The new projector will be equipped with a converter and scaler that upconvert the incoming source (regardless of its original format) to full HD 1080p.
