How Can I Play my iPod Through Multiple Sets of Home Speakers?

By Chris Boylan

Question:

Dear Big Picture Big Sound,

Can the music from an iPod be played through both A and B speakers at the same time? I'm looking specifically at the Onkyo 606.

Thanks,

-Joyce

Answer:

Hello, Joyce,

The Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver doesn't technically have "A and B speakers" - these would be two sets of speaker outputs that play the same source.  It does have separate zones however (zones 1 and 2).  This solution is actually better than  traditional A/B speakers as  you can select to play either the same source or a different source at each independent zone output. So the answer is "Yes." You can play your iPod through two different sets of speakers using the Onkyo TX-SR606.   Or you can play your iPod in zone 2 while watching/listening to a Blu-ray Disc player in Zone 1.

Onkyo DS-A2x dock with iPodAnd while you can plug your iPod directly into the Onkyo receiver using a simple mini-plug-to-RCA adapter, you'll get better results using Onkyo's optional iPod dock, the DS-A2X.  With the dock, you can control your iPod remotely from across the room and the iPod will be recharged while it's playing back music or video content through your home theater system.

Here are a couple of links for more information and to purchase either the receiver or the dock:

Hope that helps,

-Chris
