Yamaha Cuts Price on YMC-500, TMC-700 neoHD Receivers, Adds Pandora and iPhone/iPad App

By Rachel Cericola

Yamaha is making a strong push to put receivers under every tree this holiday. The company just announced plans to add a few features, as well as drop prices on its neoHD Media Control AV receivers.

The top-of-the-line neoHD is the YMC-700, which now carries an MSRP of $499.95. What makes this unit the cream of the crop is the networking features, which includes Rhapsody and web radio. The latest addition is Pandora, to add endless musical options into the mix.

That said, the neoHD isn't just your average receiver. Yamaha fancies the unit as more of a media controller, packing a lot of functions into an easy-to-use unit. Features include the YPAO automatic speaker calibration system, a USB port and three HDMI inputs. Everything can be easily controlled through one remote and the neoHD on-screen interface.

Of course, if you need another way to control the neoHD, Yamaha plans to add an app for that, later this month. That will allows neoHD YMC-700 users to control all connected devices via an iPhone or iPad.

The YMC-700 now includes Pandora support. An iPhone/iPad app is coming later this month.

"This significant price reduction combined with added network and control capabilities makes neoHD the only Wi-Fi Enabled A/V Receiver with Full Control via iPhone and iPad on the Market for under $500," said Tom Sumner, president of Yamaha Corporation of America. "We believe this news will appeal greatly to consumers who are looking to greatly simplify their home entertainment experience, while spending more time enjoying thrilling HD video and vibrant sound."

If you don't need those bells and whistles, Yamaha has also reduced the price on the YMC-500, which runs $299.95. It doesn't have the networking or app options, but still packs the same clean design and on-screen GUI into one package. Other features for the YMC-500 include FM radio, a USB port, and Yamaha's own Air Surround Xtreme technology.
