This morning Yamaha took the wraps off of its latest optical disc spinner, the 3D-ready BD-A1000 Blu-ray Disc player. In addition to offering traditional Blu-ray Disc support, Yamaha's new "universal" player is also compatible with high resolution audio formats such as DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD (SACD).
In addition to now commonplace features such as BD LIVE and BonusView support plus front and rear USB inputs, Yamaha's BD-A1000 also features built-in support for Netflix, Blockbuster, and YouTube video streaming. Also noteworthy is the unit's versatility when it comes to non-traditional media formats. The BD-A1000 is dlna-certified, and supported media formats include: AVCHD, WMV, JPEG (HD), MP3, WMA, as well as DivX Plus HD.
Consumers interested in leveraging the Yamaha's built-in decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio will be happy to learn that the BD-A1000 features 7.1 analog audio outputs. This fact coupled with its 192kHz/24-bit audio DACs should make the BD-A1000 an appealing choice for audiophiles.
Inter-device communication (namely with Yamaha "Aventage" A/V receivers) and home automation are made possible thanks to the unit's HDMI CEC compatibility, Control4 certification, and a built-in RC- 232C port. Finally, a detachable power cord rounds out the Yamaha's feature set.
The BD-A1000 will sell for $699 (MAP) but is available for pre-order now on Amazon.com for less:
