A few weeks back at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Vivitek gave us a look at the upcoming Qumi Q5, the latest addition to its popular line of DLP pocket projectors. With its native WXGA resolution (1280 x 800) and bright 500 lumens of light output, the Q5 is apt to turn a few heads when it goes on sale this summer. (CES news? In March? Look, it was a long flight home, OK? Those layovers can be a bitch.)
In addition to high light output, the Q5's new LED light source provides an estimated 30,000 hours of use and a reported contrast ratio of 3,500:1. Furthermore, thanks to Texas Instruments' DLP Link active synching technology, the Q5 is 3D-ready and requires only a pair of compatible active shutter glasses for viewers interested in visiting the third dimension.
Connectivity options on the Q5 include HDMI, Universal I/O (24-pin connector for VGA/component input), AV mini-jack audio-out, and a USB slot for content and memory expansion. A built-in 2W speaker and 4GB of internal memory rounds out the stock feature set for the light-on-its-feet projector (1.1 pounds!)
Available options include a reachargeable battery pack providing up to 4 hours of juice ($249) plus a new USB-based Wi-Fi dongle ($99) which, when paired with the Q5's built-in web browser should make for an interesting (not to mention versatile) combination.
Vivitek's Qumi Q5 will sell for $799 when it goes on sale in Q3 (i.e. "summer.")
