ViewSonic Introduces Smart Display Technology at CES

Ever since the TV made its debut in the home, parents have probably discouraged the young ones from touching it. However, that soon may be a bit of a challenge, thanks to the integration of tablet computers with the launch of Microsoft's Windows 8, which also features an intuitive interface based around touchscreens.

At this week's 2013 International CES, ViewSonic introduced the latest additions to its new line of 1920-by-1080 Full HD Smart Displays, which all run on the Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" operating system and provide users with a PC-less web connection.

The monitor maker unveiled its 24-inch VSD240, which is an upsize from the recently launched, award-winning 22-inch VSD220. The VSD240 features an LED screen with a quad-core, 1.7GHz processor from nVidia, to deliver a fast and smooth computing experience.

The Smart Displays feature an HDMI input, USB ports, SD card storage and multiple network connections including Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth. Each one also features a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam and integrated microphone. The VSD240 will be available in North America in April, with an MSRP of $499. The already launched VSD220 is now available now, priced at $399.

ViewSonic also unveiled its new line of TD 40 Series Windows 8-certified monitors, which includes the 23-inch TD2340, the 27-inch TD2740 and the 32-inch TD3240. These feature 10-point projected capacitive touch technology on the Professional Grade IPS panels, which offer a 1920-by-1080 full HD resolution and a 20,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

The TD 40 Series has a multitude of video input options, including DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA. The displays are also USB HID-compliant and VESA mount-compatible. All three models offer SRS Premium Sound speakers are are Energy Star and EPEAT Silver certified. The TD 40 Series will be available in North and Latin America. The TD2340 will be available in January, the TD3240 in February and the TD2740 in April, priced at $599, $2499 and $799, respectively.

ViewSonic also introduced its 4K/Ultra HD displays, which included a 32-inch 4K desktop display and an 84-inch 4K interactive digital sign. This is among the first introductions of UHD for a desktop-sized display. However, the 32-inch VP3280 is aimed at graphic designers, cinematographers and videographers all looking get closer to the native pixel resolutions that they are filming on camera.
