In these heady days of convergence between PCs and HDTVs, televisions are often used to display media from the PC: anything from computer presentations to streaming video from YouTube and other sources. ViewSonic and other manufacturers are finding many people are also taking this concept in the opposite direction: using their larger computer monitors as television displays.
At CES 2011 in Las Vegas last week, the display manufacturer showed off the upcoming VX2454mh-LED, a 24-inch LED lit LCD monitor with two HDMI ports for connection of external components such as HD cable or satellite set top boxes, game consoles or Blu-ray Disc players.
The new LED monitor is a 24-inch class display with a 23.6-inch (diagonal) viewable area. It features a Wide Color TFT Active Matrix LCD imaging panel with LED lighting. The panel's native resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels and it boasts an ultra-fast two millisecond response time. As an LED display, the VX2453mh uses 40 percent less power than comparable 24-inch LCD monitors.
ViewSonic is among a handful of display manufacturers adding HDMI to PC monitors. Sceptre, a display company from China, also offers an LCD monitor with two HDMI inputs, suggesting that competition could begin heating up in this market.
Pricing and availability of the ViewSonic VX2454mh monitor has yet to be announced.
