VUDU Now Offers Over 60 High-Def Disney Titles for Download
By Rachel Cericola
Just when you thought VUDU was out of ideas to pump up its set-top service, they keep showing up with the knack to create news.
This morning, the set-top/service provider
announced a deal that would deliver 60 Disney films to VUDU owners -- all in high-def. This is the first time that the studio has licensed such a large chunk of its HD catalog to an online service.
Current download-to-own titles include
Doubt and
High School Musical 3, as well as
No Country for Old Men,
The Sixth Sense and
National Treasure. VUDU plans to add additional Buena Vista/Disney titles, including upcoming releases, which will be available the same day that the Blu-ray/DVD gets released.
"Consumers are expanding the way that they acquire and watch films and Buena Vista Home Entertainment wants to support this growing medium of digital delivery," said Lori Macpherson, GM North America, Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

VUDU currently offers three flavors of set-top box: the VUDU BX100, VUDU XL and VUDU XL2. Each one can receive the tens of thousands of on-demand movies and TV shows that VUDU has to offer. All versions receive HD as well as VUDU's own HDX, a super high quality video format that delivers full 1080p resolution at 24 frames per second, for excellent results when watching movies and scripted TV shows on larger screen HDTVs and projectors.
