VIZIO is promising more apps for your money! In an effort to compete with 2011's smart TV offerings, the company just announced two new additions to its VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA) platform. Starting today, VIA-enabled HDTVs and Blu-ray players will include access to Blockbuster On Demand, as well as the Hulu Plus subscription service.
Blockbuster On Demand streams a wide selection of movies, as soon as they hit DVD and Blu-ray. Rentals cost between $2.99 to $3.99, with purchase prices in the $5.99 to $19.99 range.
Hulu Plus charges a flat fee of $7.99 per month. That cost provides subscribers with unlimited access to current TV shows on ABC, FOX and NBC, as well as classic blasts from the past, such as The X-Files, Arrested Development, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and more.

"Service and application partners focus on VIZIO because of the seamless user experience, class leading features, and award winning devices. The result is a product that gives consumers unprecedented choice and access to the best of what the web has to offer."
Aside from the new offerings, other VIA options include Amazon Video On Demand, Facebook, Flickr, Netflix, Rhapsody, Pandora, Twitter, Yahoo! TV Widgets, and more. Another partner, VUDU, recently announced plans to start streaming 3D content (3D TV required). Additional services, such as BigStar, MOG, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., OnLive, Skype, and Vimeo, are also expected to launch soon.
The VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA) Connected CE platform is available on select VIZIO Blu-ray players and VIZIO's E, M and XVT Series HDTVs, which come in sizes ranging from 22 to 65 inches.
