Toshiba American Information Systems, Inc. (just "Toshiba" to friends) has expanded its current Blu-ray line to add one important new member. The BDX3000 3D-capable Blu-ray Disc player is the company's first to support the new Blu-ray 3D format, while bringing a host of streaming entertainment options as well.
3D home theater continues to be one of the hot "buzz" topics in our industry, and 1080p/24fps Blu-ray is one of the best ways to enjoy it. The BDX3000 stands ready to serve as the source component (a handy match for Toshiba's recently unveiled WX800 Cinema Series 3D LED HDTV, coincidentally enough), and its disc-playing prowess is not the full extent of its tricks. The BDX3000 offers Wi-Fi capability for wireless internet access to a host of the most popular audio/video streaming services. BLOCKBUSTER On Demand, Netflix , VUDU and Pandora can be accessed instantly. Not the Wi-Fi type? A standard Ethernet port is also supplied. The deck is also fully compatible with BD-Live and Bonus View. In fact, feature-wise, the new BDX3000 is comparable to Toshiba's BDX2700 reviewed by our own Rachel Cericola.
Other highlights include onboard decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio/Essential, backed by 7.1-channel analog audio outputs. For further versatility and convenience, the BDX3000 also supports AVCHD video, HD JPEG/JPEG photos, and MP3/WMA audio file playback, along with a USB port and SD/SDHC card slot, and single-cable HDMI-CEC control.
The Toshiba BDX3000 Blu-ray player will be available later this month at a suggested retail price of $249.99.
