Back in June, Toshiba's Digital Products Division (DPD) was promising us Ultra HD 4K TVs by Labor Day. Well, the company is delivering a little later than expected. That said, we're still wearing white, so who are we to judge?
The important thing to know is that Toshiba is now shipping its L9300U Series of Ultra HD 4K TVs. That lineup includes models in 58-, 65- and 84-inch screen sizes. If the thought of a 3840-by-2160 image isn't enough to entice you, know that Toshiba is throwing in a free BDX6400 4K Upscaling Symbio Blu-ray Player and the SBX5065 300-watt Sound Strip with each Ultra HD TV purchase.
Each of the new TVs has the second generation of Toshiba's CEVO 4K Quad+Dual Core Engine, as well as Resolution Restoration, Color Restoration and Surface Brilliance Enhancement features make help convey those eye-popping images.
Also worth noting is that all three of the new sets ship with HDMI 1.4 capability, but Toshiba is planning to upgrade that to HDMI 2.0 via a firmware update. That way, the L9300U Series will support 4K 60 fps content. That free upgrade should be coming sometime in December 2013.
The L9300U Series includes built-in WiFi and WiDi support, as well as Toshiba's Cloud TV option. The latter allows users to tap into apps and a web browser, via the included wireless keyboard. Other web-based features include MediaShare for DLNA devices, the MediaGuide on-screen programming guide, streaming news options, and Skype support.
All three of the L9300U sets have the ClearScan 240Hz refresh rate, the Expert Mode and ColorMaster calibration, a slim bezel with gunmetal trim , and a matching frame stand.
"We are proud that Toshiba's 4K Ultra HD TVs are now available at quality retailers across the country," said Scott Ramirez, VP of product marketing and development of visual products for Toshiba's digital products division. "We are providing the highest quality product and the highest value by offering a free 4K upconverting Blu-ray player and a dynamic Sound Bar to create an unmatched home theater experience."
Toshiba is now shipping the L9300U Series to select retailers. The 58-inch model has an MSRP of $3999, with the 65-inch set priced at $5499 and the 84-incher coming in at $16,999.
