Ultra High-Definition is a high-tech freight train that can't be stopped! Unlike the tease of OLED last year (no, those are actually coming), manfacturers seem pretty bent on getting UHDTVs into homes this year -- a lot of manufacturers. The latest to enter into the frenzy is Toshiba. The company is currently out at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show, debuting its plans for the L9300 Series.
In case you're just catching on to UHD, this drool-worthy TV technology boasts images that are four times the resolution of a full 1080p HDTV. It's designed to work with pretty much any TV content, including movies, TV shows, video games, photos and even PC applications. To date, Sony, Samsung and LG have all previously announced plans to release UHD TV models to the masses.
Toshiba's L9300 line of UHDTVs will come in three sizes. Besides the 3840-by-2160 resolution, the 58-, 65- and 84-inch models will all have Toshiba's CEVO 4K Quad+Dual Core Processor for upscaling content HD and SD content to an eye-popping 4K quality.
Other features include 2D-to-3D conversion, the ClearScan 240Hz refresh rate, the CQ Engine with Edge Enhancer, the Ultra Clear Dynamic Noise Reducation feature, and a Dynamic Picture Mode. There's also something called Resolution+, a new technology that promises bright images, color saturation, an awesome contrast, and all of the other goodies you'd expect in a UHDTV.
If the outside appearance is just as important to you, know that each of these models will also have an ultra-slim bezel with a gun-metal trim and a matching stand.
Toshiba has yet to announce pricing on any of the models in the L9300 Series, but says that the sets should be coming sometime this summer.
