If you want to build a home theater, a receiver is an absolute must-have. A big screen is awesome and good speakers are certainly appreciated. However, a receiver is the component that ties the two together. It can even add several other audio and video components (Blu-ray player, gaming console, Roku, etc.) into the mix.
Now, a lot of manufacturers make receivers. There are different sizes with different capabilities, for a variety of budgets. Of course, sometimes you can snag a deal on a receiver that may typically be out of your price range. Today is that day.
Amazon has listed the Yamaha RX-V575 7.2-Channel A/V Receiver as its Gold Box Deal of the Day. The list price on this receiver is $549.95. However, because it's getting the Gold Box treatment, you can have it for just $299.99. That's 45 percent off the list, which means that you'll save $249.96 on this purchase. Amazon is even offering to ship it for free. To find out more about the Gold Box Deal and how it works, check out Amazon's page:
Now that you know about this deal, let's talk about why it's such a good deal. First and foremost, we went hands-on with this receiver back in December, giving it one of Big Picture Big Sound's BIGGIE awards. In other words, we liked it! The RX-V575 promises 115 watts (1kHz @ 8 ohms) for each of its seven channels. It's got five HDMI inputs with support for 3D and Audio Return Channel (ARC), well as 4K pass-through.
As far as audio is concerned, Yamaha has packed the RX-V575 with Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs, Apple AirPlay for wireless streaming, and access to web radio. It can also handle many of today's most popular audio formats, such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Pro Logic, and all of the DTS-HD Master Audio formats. It even has its own Virtual Presence Speaker feature, as well as Yamaha's Virtual Cinema DSP.
Some of the other highlights include Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) support, a front-panel USB port, and two subwoofer pre-outs. If you're not ready for a seven-channel system, this receiver can be used for a five-channel setup, saving the two remaining channels for a second set of speakers in another room. Also worth mentioning is that this receiver can do Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with two different adapters, which are sold separately.
