Time to break out the sequined corset and garter belt and fire up some toast!
It's the 35th anniversary of the campy cult favorite, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. To honor the film world's favorite sweet transvestite, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is giving Rocky Horror a brand new Blu-ray release. The disc will go on sale on October 19, 2010.
The horror/comedy/musical tells the completely bizarre tale of Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), who get lost one rainy night, only to end up at a castle belonging to one Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a.k.a. the "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania."
Hard to believe, but this is actually the longest-running theatrical release in film history.
After 35 years, the film could use a bit of sprucing up. We're not talking about a remake (please, no!), but instead Fox has restored the film and added 7.1 audio, so you can have your own at-home midnight showings.
There's plenty of new content for film fans and costumed party-goers. Here is a list of what to expect from the Blu-ray:
Also, for a limited time, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary will include a collectible 24-page book with photos shot by Mick Rock, chief photographer on the film.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Blu-ray disc set will retail for $34.99. However, Amazon currently has it available for pre-order for almost half that price. Amazon's pre-order pricing guarantee is in effect, so if the price goes down before it ships, you'll get it for the lower price!
