It looks The Kennedys have finally found a home. DISH Network just announced that the controversial miniseries will make its big debut this Sunday, in high-definition, on REELZCHANNEL. The new network can be found in DISH Network's America's Top 120 packages and above, on channel 299.
Back in January, the History Channel axed plans for the $25 million production, saying that it wasn't a good fit for the network. This was amidst a ton of controversy about the series and its historical accuracy. Since then, the producers have been shopping around the project. Well, one network's trash could be a ratings gold mine for REELZCHANNEL, a relatively unknown network.
"DISH Network has chosen to support an independent during a very important time in our network's history," said REELZCHANNEL CEO Stan E. Hubbard. "We expect a lot of new viewers for REELZCHANNEL who are eager to watch the highly-anticipated television movie event, The Kennedys - and now that we're in HD nationwide on DISH Network, we can show the movie event as the moviemakers intended."
The series covers both the public and private aspects of one of history's most famous families. Expect to see everything from the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis to the world to the brink of nuclear war and the Civil Rights Movement. It stars Greg Kinnear as President John F. Kennedy, Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy, Tom Wilkinson as Joseph Kennedy Sr., and Barry Pepper as Bobby Kennedy.
The Kennedys will be an eight-part movie event, airing from April 3 through 10. The first night will kick off with a two-hour premiere on Sunday, April 3 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) The series is expected to replay throughout April, also in HD.
"DISH Network is always seeking ways to offer our customers unique and compelling viewing experiences, and we are proud to be the only national TV provider to deliver the much talked about movie event The Kennedys in high definition on REELZCHANNEL," said Dave Shull, DISH Network's senior VP of programming.
