A year or so ago I was showing The Incredibles to my kids on DVD ("DVD, Dad? Really?" said one), still a standard-def stunner, and I remember thinking that this title is going to kick serious butt once Disney gets around to releasing it on Blu-ray. Well, get ready to save the day, April 12, with the arrival of Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack.
Equal parts James Bond and Fantastic Four, yet somehow wildly original, The Incredibles tells the story of The Parr Family, led by the former Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, now the parents of Dash and Violet. (Voiced by Craig T. Nelson, Oscar winner Holly Hunter, Spencer Fox and Sarah Vowell respectively). The super-powered mom and pop have spawned differently-powered offspring, all trudging through a mundane suburban existence until they are drawn into their first family adventure.
The doubly statued Oscar winner (2004 Best Animated Feature Film and Best Achievement in Sound Editing, both richly deserved) will be presented in HD of course at its original 2.39:1 aspect ratio, accompanied by DTS-HD Master Audio. Discs One and Two in this set will be Blu-rays, the movie plus extensive new bonus features, in addition to a DVD copy of the film as well as a Digital Copy for computers and portable media players. We have also been assured that all of the classic DVD supplements will indeed be maintained on this upcoming edition.
Among those new extras I mentioned will be:
The Incredibles 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack is available for pre-order now at Amazon, at a typically steep discount off the suggested price of $45.99.
