This week's Consumer Electronics Show isn't just about shiny new products. We also get a peek at what's inside them.
Texas Instruments just announced its latest chipset, the DLP Pico HD. As you can tell by the photo below, this new chipset is a tiny one. However, it still manages to deliver HD (WXGA) video and images on almost any surface, up to 100 inches. The company also says that these images should be brighter and more energy efficient than we've ever seen.
"The new DLP Pico HD chipset provides the ultimate combination of the best image quality in the smallest size, and is poised to revolutionize the worlds of consumer entertainment and mobile enterprise solutions," said Frank Moizio, manager of DLP Pico Projection. "Never again will mobile professionals be caught without the ability to share their vision, as this new chipset enables the brightest projection products that can be easily stored and carried in a laptop bag. Even more exciting is that it opens tremendous opportunities in the world of entertainment - from greater than 100-inch HD video from the palm of your hand - to a wide variety of new entertainment devices that allow consumers to enjoy big picture HD experiences in a snap, anywhere, anytime."
You may not be all that interested, but a ton of manufacturers certainly are. Acer, Dell, LG, Optoma, and ViewSonic are all at the event, showing off wares with the new TI chipset. Details are a bit fuzzy on who has what, but we do know that LG is using the DLP Pico HD for its HW300T multimedia pocket projector, which includes a built-in TV tuner. ViewSonic also has its own pint-sized projector, with the PLED-W200 DLP Pico projector.
