Disney is letting down their hair and opening the vault for Tangled. The latest Disney princess was a huge hit for the House of Mouse, grossing over $400 million worldwide. It should be an even bigger hit with home audiences, because the studio is actually releasing the film on three different disc formats, all on the same day - a first for the studio.
Disney just announced plans to release Tangled in a 4-disc Blu-ray 3D combo pack, a 2-disc Blu-ray set, and a single-disc DVD. All three will be available on March 29, 2011, making the studio's 50th full-length animated feature the first Disney title to get a day-and-date release on all three formats.
This re-telling of Rapunzel features the voices of singer Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi (TV's Chuck), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), Donna Murphy (Spider-Man 2), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy). To untangle more about the movie, check out Beth McCabe's review of the theatrical release of Tangled.
The Blu-ray 3D set will include a Blu-ray 3D disc, a 2D Blu-ray, the standard-def DVD, and a digital copy. The 2D Blu-ray set has the standard-def DVD as its second disc. Both HD releases include the "Untangled: The Making of a Fairy Tale" featurette, as well as three deleted scenes, two extended songs, two alternate openings to the film, and nine teaser commercials. There's also the "50th Animated Feature Countdown," a video montage that celebrates Tangled as Disney's 50th animated film.
Disney has announced pricing for all three versions of Tangled. The 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack will have an MSRP of $49.99, with the 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack costing $39.99. The single-disc DVD is listed as $29.99. Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for all three releases, offering a 30- to 40-percent discount on each. This title is also protected under Amazon's pre-order price guarantee, so if the Amazon price drops between now and the March 29 release date, you'll get the lowest price.
