THIEL Speakers Now Available Online at Amazon.com

By Rachel Cericola

THIEL is known for its high-end audio products. Well, now they are hoping to be known by a lot more people for that excellence.

The company just announced plans to offer seven speaker models through Amazon. As well as being able to cross-promote with other products, THIEL is hoping that the online exposure can get them a little more brand recognition. Models include architectural and bookshelf speakers, as well as subwoofers.

Perfect for the summer, the DewPoint outdoor speaker can withstand plenty of outdoor elements, as long as it's not in direct contact with water. At $1450 each, we highly doubt you will submerge them in the pool. Still, each unit has a sturdy aluminum enclosure, which is paintable. The inside features a 6.5-inch woofer and a 1-inch metal dome tweeter. Expect a frequency response of 75 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB), a sensitivity of 89 dB at 2.8 V-1m, phase response within ±10 degree of minimum, and a 4 ohm nominal impedance.

For the great indoors, Amazon will have THIEL's PowerPlane 1.2 and HigherPlane 1.2 in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, as well as the PowerPoint 1.2 aluminum on-wall/on-ceiling speaker.

The in-wall PowerPlane 1.2 features a funky design and paintable surface. Packing in some of the same technology as THIEL's floorstanding and bookshelf models, this two-way speaker features a self-enclosed aluminum cabinet. At $990 each, other specs include a frequency response of 75 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB), a sensitivity of 89 dB at 2.8 V-1m, phase response within ±10degree of minimum, and a 4 ohm nominal impedance.

Even though the specs are identical, the HigherPlane 1.2 is very different. First of all, it looks different, because it's designed for in-ceiling applications. At $990 each, this model also offers a paintable, aluminum baffle and grille, so the sound can almost disappear into any ceiling.

If you're in a bragging mood, the PowerPlane 1.2 doesn't hide all that well. It does have the same specs as the two above, but is designed to be mounted on the wall instead of in it. At $1450 each, this model features a teardrop design and a 90-degree radiation pattern for complete room coverage.

For something a bit smaller, THIEL has the SCS4 and MCS1 bookshelf lines. Both of these aren't your typical teeny speakers, at $990 and $2200 each, respectively. Both are available in black, as well as natural cherry and dark cherry wood finishes. THIEL also says they plan to unveil a new subwoofer product for the Amazon audience later this year.

"Our relationship with Amazon will position THIEL advantageously for the future as more consumers rely on the Internet to research and purchase premium products," said Ken Dawkins, VP for THIEL's North American Sales. "Because Amazon.com offers goods within almost every category that people shop for, the online retailer also has the unique ability to cross-merchandise THIEL with other high-performance products from any category, promoting growth for the THIEL brand as well as providing increased visibility for the high performance audio marketplace as a whole."
