CE Week and AXPONA New York are right around the corner, but that hasn't stopped loudspeaker manufacturer THIEL Audio from giving us a sneak peak at its new offerings which will be on active demo next week at the show. THIEL is one of the premier brands in the world of audio so when they launch something new, it is always worth listening to. For the high-end audio devotee, the Kentucky-based manufacturer is showcasing its new SCS4T loudspeakers ($3,690 per pair) that look like a rather substantial pair of transducers for the home theater.
THIEL is showing off the SCS4T along with two of their SS2 SmartSub subwoofers in a room they're sharing with with AIX Records, Dolby Laboratories, Oppo, JVC, Power Modules (David Belles), and DH Labs cables. Based on the participation of AIX and Dolby, we suspect that the folks at THIEL were as impressed by the Goldberg Variations Blu-ray 3D as we were and we can't wait to see and hear it with such high-resolution equipment.
The SCS4T is a new addition to its J.E.T. collection of products which utilize THIEL's heralded Power Driver; a coaxially mounted midrange/tweeter, along with a first-order crossover design to ensure perfect time and phase coherence.
The 1" thick cabinets are finished in furniture-grade, real hardwood veneers (Natural Cherry, Dark Cherry, Black Ash) and the baffle is made out of Die-cast aluminum. The satin-lacquered finish gives the design (and all of their products) a glorious look. THIEL also provides large black brushed aluminum outriggers and gunmetal finished spikes to provide a superior base for the 50-pound two-way loudspeakers.
The SCS4T's quoted frequency response is 48Hz - 20KHz +/- 2dB and the design looks like it needs some juice to really open up; 87dB, 4 ohms.
THIEL Audio will be showing in the Clinton Room of the Affinia Hotel (32st Street and 7th Avenue) from June 24th at 9am until 8pm and on June 25th from 9am to 5pm.
