Stewart Filmscreen's AcoustiShade Blocks Light and Noise from Your Home Theater
By Rachel Cericola
Stewart Filmscreen is known for what it brings to the home theater experience: big, beautiful screens. Now the company wants to be known for what they keep out of it: ambient noise and light.
First announced earlier this summer, the company is showing off its AcoustiShade product in Atlanta this week at the CEDIA Expo.
AcoustiShade is the company's first window treatment product, designed to control noise and block out sunlight. Instead of shielding your eyes (and holding your tongue), this product cuts down on distractions that can lessen our enjoyment of media at home by delivering an uninterrupted and optimized home theater experience.
The system is made up of a sound attenuating blackout layer, a decorative fabric that reduces resonance, and an air space for acoustical benefits. All of this is on a motor rolling baton system, which deploys only when it’s needed. The company also has a patent pending for its Magnetic Blackout & Attenuation Assist (MBAA) system, which provides a tight seal on the sides between the shade and side chambers.
Designed for easy installation, the unit comes pre-assembled. However, you'll still need to call an installer, because it's only be offered through Stewart's dealer network. The AcoustiShade is available now in a variety of colors and sizes, which will determine the price.
