Stewart Filmscreen Announces New Products & Projection Screen Materials

By Rachel Cericola

Stewart Filmscreen made a whopping five announcements at this year's InfoComm show. The screen manufacturer sure knows how to put some life into a giant blank canvas.

First up, the company announced a variety of new screen materials. Yes, a bed sheet stuck to your wall with scotch tape just doesn't create the same magic as CrystalView, a new rear-projection screen that promises better contrast and resolution. The SnoMatte 100 is perfect for edge-blending applications, which means multiple projectors -- we are jealous. There's also two new gray screens - ideal for enhancing the black levels from digital projectors: the GrayHawk RS G3 and GrayMatte 70.

Of course, with all of the talk about 3D, Stewart has thrown its Silver 3D and StarGlas material into the mix. Don't get all drooly, though; for now, both are only being used in theme parks. For the home, they have new Filmscreen 100 and Filmscreen 150, which promise a neutral gray tint for enhanced contrast.

The AcoustiShade is Stewart Filmscreen's first window treatment product designed to control noise and block out sunlight.
For the big boys, the Visionary Grande is being touted as a large format, electronically controlled, retractable solution for screens up to 18 feet. Designed for new construction, the unit offers a flush-ceiling mount with no visible hardware. If you need to fill your existing spot, the Cabaret Screen is a stylish addition to any theater. Boasting new housing and the option of Lutron QS, QED or Legacy 120v quiet motors, the removable aluminum valance comes in various finishes.  This is a screen housing that was meant to be seen (but not hear).

If you want something to show off, Stewart Media Décor will allow you to display a custom piece of artwork when your Stewart screen or flat panel isn't in use. The company partnered with Media Décor for this one. Aside from the customized frame, the unit can conceal any front- or rear-projection screen or flat panel TV with artwork in enlarged sizes ranging from 92 to 110 inches diagonal, in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Last, but certainly not least, the AcoustiShade is Stewart's first window treatment product designed to control noise and block out sunlight. We all know these two can be an enthusiast's nightmare. However, the company claims this is the solution -- and they are getting a patent to prove it. The system is made up of a sound attenuating blackout layer, a perforated decorative fabric that reduces resonance, and an air space for acoustical benefits.

Of course, Stewart had a lot to talk about, but they did leave out a few details. Right now, there are no release dates or prices on any of the newly announced products.
