Speakers Get Warm and Fuzzy with Electric Friends

By Peter Suciu

Audiophiles think of sound quality first, but let's face it: aesthetics matter too. Speakers need to look good, while sounding great. Most children -- or at least those with a child-like appreciation of the world -- probably have a very different idea of what looks good, leaving sound as maybe an afterthought..

That doesn't mean that kids like to settle for a boring box-shaped speaker that sounds worse than it looks.

This is why Electric Friends have introduced a line of Electric Friend Minis at this week's 2013 International CES.

Shaped like animal heads, these speakers are designed to work with iOS and Android devices, as well as any portable music player. Each one has 2-watt speakers and a built-in 6-watt amplifier, which can actually crank some decent volume that's suitable for a playroom or even small classroom.

While designed to be kid-friendly, these could be ideal for those who like big-game hunting as well!

Each unit comes equipped with a retractable 3.5mm stereo cable and is magnetically shielded, so these can be used near a computer monitor or older CRT TV without fear of interference.

"With their playful designs and convenient size, Electric Friends Minis are fun and functional speakers that appeal to the kid in all of us," Eric Groff, vice president of sales at Electric Friends.

The line includes Cece the Kitty, Diesel the Doggy, Miki the Monkey, Dex the Dino, Bella the Bunny and Izzy the Unicorn. Each one will be available this spring for $24.99. For most kids that should sound pretty good!
