Sony's Tablet P Has Two Touch-Sensitive Screens

By Enid Burns

In the growing tablet category, it seems that consumers have to choose between a big screen or a compact design that's easier to carry around. Sony wants to please everyone with the Tablet P, an upcoming tablet that packs dual screens into a clamshell design.

The Sony Tablet P has two 5.5-inch TruBlack displays. Both screens are touch-sensitive, and can share functions. For example, the top screen can display email, while the bottom operates as a soft keyboard for easier typing. In other programs, both screens will coordinate to create one large picture. When used as an eReader, the Tablet P will appear like an actual book, displaying two pages across the two screens.

Sony is building the Tablet P to run the Android Honeycomb 3.2 operating system. It will be WiFi- and 4G-capable, and offered on AT&T's mobile broadband network.  Other Tablet P features will include front- and rear-facing cameras.

Sony's upcoming Tablet P can fold up, making it even more compact and convenient.

Sony says that the Tablet P will also play nice with the company's PlayStation gaming line. The Tablet P is Playstation-certified, meaning that a number of classic games will be available to play on the device.

The Tablet P will also be able to access a wealth of other content. Personal Space by Sony will allow users to view and share photos and videos. New content will also be available to Tablet P users through Sony's Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited services, which feature endless movie and music options. For avid reader, the Sony Reader Store has eBooks and other content.

Right now, there's no word on the Tablet P's availability or pricing.
