Sony Electronics is pushing 3D and the connected experience in a big way at their booth at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, no place more evident than in their impressive lineup of new BRAVIA LED televisions.
The new flagship, available in March, is going to be the Sony BRAVIA XBR HX929-Series LED LCD 3D Capable HDTV, which features a full-array local dimming LED backlight, an OptiContrast Panel, the X-Reality PRO picture engine, and MotionFlow XR 960, which I believe offers an incredible 960Hz refresh rate.
For that connectivity I mentioned, the HX929 Series packs integrated 802.11n wi-fi networking, BRAVIA Internet Video and the Qriocity content service. It also supports large screen Skype video-calling from your living room at 720p high definition (requires purchase of optional Skype camera). In addition to the 55-inch and 46-inch models expected in March, a 65-inch model is due later in the year (August). Pricing has not yet been announced on these or any of the models mentioned here.
In May, the BRAVIA HX820-Series LED LCD 3D Capable HDTV drops, this time in a Dynamic Edge-lit LED backlight design and MotionFlow XR 480, also with the OptiContrast Panel, X-Reality PRO Engine, 802.11n, 720p Skype and BRAVIA Internet Video/Qriocity. Models include the 55-inch KDL-55HX820 and the 46-inch KDL-46HX820.
Moving down the line, also in May, the edge-lit BRAVIA HX729-Series LED LCD 3D Capable HDTV loses the OptiContrast panel but still delivers the X-Reality PRO Engine, MotionFlow XR 480, Wi-Fi-n, HD Skype and Sony's IPTV dynamic duo. From big to small, we have the 65-inch KDL-65HX729, 55-inch KDL-55HX729 and 46-inch KDL-46HX729.
And May's edge-lit BRAVIA NX720-Series LED LCD 3D Capable HDTV again brings the OptiContrast Panel, 720p Skype and the internet video options backed by built-in 802.11. MotionFlow XR 240 and the X-Reality Engine still assure strong picture, in screen sizes of 60 inches (KDL-60NX720), 55 inches (KDL-55NX720), and 46 inches (KDL-46NX720).
So clearly there is a model for anyone looking for a specific screen size and particular combination of features. All of the models have been designed with Sony's new "monolith" esthetic, so they make a statement even when they're not saying a damned thing.
