Sony BRAVIA TV Owners Get Early Crack at "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"
By Rachel Cericola
Sony is serving up a hearty helping of Meatballs for BRAVIA owners. The company just announced that it will stream Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs to select BRAVIA HDTVs and Blu-ray players four weeks before it hits shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on January 5, 2010.
Starting today, if you purchase a BRAVIA HDTV or Blu-ray player and have it registered between November 9, 2009 and January 4, 2010, you will receive a 24-hour high-def rental for free. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will be available from December 8, 2009 through January 4, 2010 on all current networked BRAVIA HDTVs, including the W5100, Z5100, XBR9 (but not the KDL-32XBR9), and XBR10 series. It's also available on the BDP-N460 Network Blu-ray Disc player.
If you've already got a networked BRAVIA HDTV or one with BRAVIA Internet Video Link, you can rent the animated flick during that time period -- for $24.95.
"Meatballs" features the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg and Neil Patrick Harris.
"Sony is the first company to utilize its internet enabled TVs and other networked devices to stream feature films directly to consumers' televisions prior to availability on DVD or Blu-ray," said Hiro Kawano, senior vice president for Sony Electronics' Home Division business. "We hope that consumers who own networked Sony BRAVIA and Blu-ray Disc players take the opportunity to bring family and friends together during the holiday season to enjoy this warmhearted movie."
Inspired by the children's book, the animated movie features the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Bruce Campbell, and Mr. T. For more information about the movie, check out Joe Lozito's review of the theatrical release of
