Snow White Gets Early Blu-ray Debut
By Rachel Cericola
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to high-def we go! Disney just announced that they will release the high-def Blu-ray version of
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs a full seven weeks before the standard-def DVD version.
However, that's not the only bonus. As is becoming de rigeur among Disney animated classics, when
Snow White debuts on Blu-ray Disc on October 6, it will also come
with a standard-def DVD. Got to love that. The stand-alone standard-def DVD will hit shelves on November 24.
Both sets should sell pretty well. After all, the movie hasn't been available in any form since 2001. Also driving sales will be the set's limited availability. We're not entirely sure when it will be pulled from shelves, but you should have plenty of time to stock up for the holiday shopping season.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the classic wicked stepmother story. The evil Queen becomes jealous of Snow White's blossoming beauty, and soon sets out to kill the "fairest of them all." Scary? Maybe. However, the end result introduces audiences to seven of the smallest, cutest characters in Disney history: the Seven Dwarfs. Poison apples and princes aplenty; this one certainly deserves a place in any Blu-ray collection.
The Blu-ray version will include 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, a 5.1 Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix (DEHT), and 5.1 DEHT French and Spanish language tracks. It will also feature a 1.33:1 widescreen aspect ratio.
Sadly, none of the extras have been announced. However, Disney says there should be plenty of new content to justify your $39.99. You can book your copy of
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs beginning August 11.
